Kofi Opoku is a Ghanaian development practitioner, paralegal, and Programs Manager at Elizka Relief Foundation, a Ghana-based non-governmental organization with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. His work focuses on advancing sustainable development, human rights, social inclusion, human empowerment, and climate resilience through evidence-based programmes, policy advocacy, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Kofi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and Rural Development from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and possesses intermediate professional skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which he applies to spatial analysis, environmental mapping, and community-based planning. He is also a certified paralegal, having completed professional training through the Federation of International Women Lawyers, strengthening his expertise in legal awareness, access to justice, and rights-based advocacy.
With a strong background in community development, social welfare, environmental sustainability, and human rights, Kofi has been instrumental in designing and implementing initiatives that empower vulnerable populations, promote social inclusion, and strengthen institutional capacities. His professional interests lie at the intersection of climate governance, sustainable livelihoods, human rights, and policy advocacy, with particular emphasis on ensuring that marginalized communities are central to decision-making processes.
Kofi has contributed to international human rights advocacy through research and the preparation of written statements submitted to the United Nations Human Rights Council on issues including climate justice, migration, minority rights, gender equality, and the rights of people affected by conflict and displacement. His work reflects a commitment to integrating local evidence into international policy dialogue and advancing rights-based approaches to sustainable development.
He has represented Elizka Relief Foundation in several international and regional engagements. Notably, he served as a panelist at the 10th Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD), held at the United Nations Conference Centre at the Headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, where he contributed to discussions on accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.
He also attended the 2nd Climate Week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a flagship regional event convened to advance climate action and align Africa’s priorities with the Paris Agreement. During the event, he participated in the Sixth Global Dialogue and Investment-Focused Event under the Sharm el-Sheikh Mitigation Ambition and Implementation Work Programme and the High-Level Ministerial Event on Africa’s Climate Challenges: Addressing its Special Circumstances and Needs, contributing to discussions on climate mitigation, adaptation finance, capacity development, and sustainable industrial growth.
