LAND RECLAMATION AND RESTORATION OF POST MINING SITES IN GHANA

There is the increasing demand to undertake Land reclamation and restoration activities to help manage and restore post-mining landscapes, natural habitat and/or agricultural use engendered and destroyedby illegal mining activities in the country. Although mining is an economic booster, its negative ecological backlashes have become a great concern to the environment in Ghana. Reclamation and restoration of derelict mine sites in Ghana has become extremely necessary for the restoration of ecological integrity in the country based on sound ecological principles.

Currently, about 1.5% of Ghana’s land surface of 228,000 sq. km which is nearly 342,000 hectares has been destroyed through irresponsible mining. The organization is therefore currently seeking collaborative efforts to help restore the environment of the country and also promote responsible and sustainable mining in the country.
