Peace Park Named In Honor of President Weah

Monrovia, Liberia – The Authority and citizens of Montserrado County have named a Peace Park and Children Playground in honor of President George Manneh Weah in recognition of his contributions to the peace and development of the county as Senator from 2014 to 2017.

The Park was constructed in the City of Bentol City, the administrative capital of Montserrado, by the county’s authority to symbolize the end of division that marred the civil war and to depict a dawn of peace and genuine reconciliation amongst Liberians, as the country seeks a new path of national coherence and overarching development under the CDC-led administration.

It is also to give Liberian children a sense of direction and inspiration into believing that their wellbeing is at the top of Government’s social development agenda. President Weah dedicated the Peace Park and Children Playground Monday, July 23, 2018 as one of few development projects earmarked for the 171st Independence of the country.

Speaking at the dedication program, President Weah said, naming the Peace Park in his honor was a fruit of the patience he bore over time, and said it was important for Liberians to learn how to be patient and wait on their time in life since there were lot of good things ahead of everyone’s life approved by God.

“You see, my life should serve as an example for people to be patient and wait on God’s time in life; because in life, there is a particular time for everyone; this is because, “patience is virtue,” President Weah said.

President Weah indicated it was important that Liberians keep their faith in God without harboring a single doubt, as God was always ready to prove His power beyond doubts in the life of anyone. The Liberian leader thanked the citizens of Montserrado County for naming the Peace Park in his honor, and used the time to reflect on happenings bordering on development issues amongst leaders of the County while serving as Senator of Montserrado County.

Also, the county authority led by Superintendent, Florence F. Brandy, Rep. Thomas P. Fallah (Chairman of the County’s Legislative Caucus), Township Commissioners, Chiefs, youths and women as well as the Traditional Council of Liberia presented the President special gowns designed and made by Liberian women in appreciation of his contributions to the County as senator and the vision for development, as President.

Meanwhile, the Liberian leader has presented certificate of citizenship to several Serra Leonean refugees residing in Liberia. The initiative was done in line with the international conventions, protocols and the nationality laws of Liberia.

According to President Weah, Liberia’s decision to integrate and grant citizenships to about 50 former Serra Leonean refugees who have lived in the bailiwick of Liberia over the past years was based on their respective decisions to make Liberia their new home. He stated that the Liberian government was acting in fulfillment of the ECOWAS and United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR’s) Conventions and Protocols on refugees which provide protections and integration for people in difficult conditions, especially refugees.

President Weah encouraged the new Liberian citizens to be law-abiding and make meaningful contributions to the Liberian society. At the same time, the Liberian leader set the month of December 2018 as one of action in Liberia’s development drive, and disclosed that there will be a groundbreaking ceremony in the Red-Light Community for the commencement of works on the Liberian Economic Zone on August 28, 2018.
